Vitamin Capsules Liquid or Sachets?

It is amazing how much the simple and natural supplement of calcium can contribute to our general well-being, quite apart from giving us strong teeth and bones. Coral calcium is an effective way of keeping a sea of diseases such as osteoporosis at bay. The full benefits of this mineral come with magnesium in tow, and we need to choose products without serious heavy metal contamination. One needs to adhere to recommended dosage as an excess of coral calcium, as with any other ingredient, can be harmful.

Reputed manufacturers offer genuine coral calcium harvested from the waters off Japan, and are always available to provide answers to any questions that their customers may have.

Vitamin D is another ingredient that combines well with coral calcium, as it improves absorption and uptake. Other anti-oxidants may be added to increase the health benefits of a coral calcium supplement.

People have a choice between coral calcium in sachets, as a powder, or as a liquid, apart from conventional pills and capsules.

Liquid health products go beyond coral calcium. Our bodies are able to absorb liquid preparations of minerals and vitamins much better than in solid form. Intra-cellular availability is also much higher with a liquid preparation. Aloe Vera, sea vegetables and natural fruit extracts are common ingredients of liquid vitamin products. Plant nutrients are highly efficacious at the cellular level. Do not deny yourself such bounties of nature!

Colloidal silver is another liquid health product of much merit. It strengthens the immune system and provides invaluable support to the body's natural defense mechanism.

Many of the deleterious effects of modern living that is heavily polluted by poisonous chemicals can be mitigated in large measure through a regular and healthy uptake of organically grown green vegetables. Barley and certain varieties of rice yield fantastic extracts in liquid form that are powerhouses of energy and good health. Powders, capsules and sachets of tea are convenient ways of getting your daily dose of healthy greens, should you be short of time to shop around for organic food. Herbal extracts can be used for special applications, such as for improving sexual performance in men and desire in women.

It is reassuring to know in the unhealthy and chemical-dominated world of today that nature stands by us with a treasure of herbs, minerals and natural vitamins that can help us stay well, reduce the chances of debilitating disease and enhance the quality of our lives as well.

Innovative scientists and manufacturers have found creative ways by which we can get our daily requirement of natural supplements in convenient and pleasant forms.

Common Cold Symptoms and Facts about Common Cold Treatments

Choosing an effective common cold treatment may be frustrating. Common cold symptoms can vary and finding a product that works to relieve all of your symptoms may be difficult, if not impossible. Busy adults often look for common cold treatments that will relieve their symptoms without making them drowsy, but according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) bed rest is good for you, when you have a cold. In fact, adequate rest is important at all times for maintaining a healthy immune system and general good health.

In addition to bed rest, the NIAID recommends drinking plenty of fluids and gargling with warm salt water as common cold treatments. Scratchy or sore throat may be relieved by using sprays or throat lozenges. Petroleum jelly may relieve a raw nose and using soft tissues or those treated with lotions may be more soothing than regular paper tissue. Another common cold treatment, which the NIAID recommends is aspirin or acetaminophen to relieve headache, fever or body aches. However, research indicates that aspirin use for common cold treatment increases the amount of virus in nasal secretions, meaning that transmitting the virus to others is more likely.

Children under the age of 18, should not be given aspirin containing products, due to the risk of Reye?s syndrome, a disease that affects all of the organs of the body, can have long-lasting consequences and can lead to brain damage or death in some children. It is advisable to check the ingredients in any common cold treatments before giving them to children. Many antihistamines and decongestants contain small amounts of aspirin or other pain relievers, as do other multi-symptom common cold treatments.

The common cold is a viral infection of the lining of the nose. Thus, typical common cold symptoms include sneezing, runny or stuffy nose and difficulty breathing through the nose. Coughing usually results from irritation of the throat when nasal fluids drain into the throat. Some of the viruses that cause common cold symptoms may lead to upper respiratory or sinus infections. Blowing the nose forces mucus and bacteria into the sinuses and can lead to bacterial infection of the sinuses.

A commonly held myth about common cold treatment is that allowing the nose to run and sneezing to continue will reduce the duration of the infection. This non-treatment increases the likelihood that sinus and upper respiratory bacterial infections will occur. Plus, sneezing, coughing and nasal secretions transmit the viruses to other people. Common cold treatments not only relieve symptoms, but prevent the spread of the virus and reduce the chance of developing complications.

Other myths about common cold treatments include feeding a cold and inhaling steam to relieve symptoms. While good nutrition is important, there is no evidence that increasing food intake during a cold will relieve symptoms or reduce recovery time. While inhaling steam may temporarily relieve congestion, health experts do not believe that this is an effective common cold treatment.

Common cold symptoms may include headache and low fever. The headache results from irritation of the sinuses and stuffy nose. The fever is the body?s reaction to the viral infection. Although doctor visits for common cold treatment are generally unnecessary, colds are one of the leading causes of doctor visits annually. Over the counter products, such as antihistamines, decongestants, cough suppressants and analgesics are usually the only things that a doctor will recommend as common cold treatments. Antibiotics will have no effect on common cold symptoms and will only be prescribed if complications, such as bacterial infection of the ears or sinuses are present.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 22 million school days are lost each year in the United States due to common cold symptoms. And, often when the kids catch a cold, parents become affected, too, leading to lost days of work, not to mention a week or more of miserable days spent suffering. Since there is no cure for the common cold and the most effective common cold treatments can only reduce symptoms or length of duration, focus must be on prevention.

Recent studies support the belief that a poorly functioning immune system increases the likelihood of developing common cold symptoms. People can be exposed to the viruses and never develop symptoms. Clinical research, in which common cold viruses were sprayed directly in the nose, showed that some people never developed symptoms, even though the virus was present. Asthmatics, who have more colds than the average person, produce a lower than average number of anti-viral proteins. Thus, the use of dietary supplements that support healthy immune system function may reduce the likelihood of developing common cold symptoms. The Shocking Advantages Of An Elliptical Trainer Over A Treadmill

Many experts have come to agree that elliptical trainers are much better than treadmills. While treadmills are a useful piece of equipment for any workout regimen, elliptical trainers definitely have their place.

The most widely known advantage of an elliptical trainer is the low impact workout that it creates. See when you're using a treadmill your feet leave the surface of the treadmill as you take a step, and then come back into contact with the treadmill. This causes pressure to be put on joints, muscles and parts of the body like hips and knees.

Elliptical trainers on the other hand your feet never leave the surface of the machine, making it a very low impact workout. This allows you to work out for longer periods of time as well as avoid unnecessary pain that ensues after a workout that has an impact.

A second advantage, is many elliptical trainers have a feature where you also workout your arms as your working out your legs. Treadmills on the other hand usually keep your arms in a fixed position for obvious safety reasons. This dual action movement provided by an elliptical trainer helps you burn more calories in the same amount of time. The

Third advantage is many elliptical trainers do not require an electrical source. Treadmills are usually powered by electricity and require you to be near an outlet. This limits traditionally where you can keep an elliptical trainer since many homes do not have outlets disbursed and readily available.

On the other hand let's discuss some possible advantages of a treadmill over an elliptical trainer. Treadmills allow the user to run, walk or jog giving you a variety of workouts depending upon your skill and fitness level. Elliptical trainers on the other hand usually only give you a foreword and backwards workout motion somewhat limiting your workout routines.

Overall if you are trying to decide whether or not to buy an elliptical trainer or a treadmill I would honestly say I would have to choose the elliptical trainer. The no or little impact that the elliptical trainer provides is a major factor in my decision. Ask anybody who works out frequently and they will tell you the joint pain is commonly associated with workouts. Anything I can do to lessen this pain will be beneficial to me in the long run.

"I Have Arthritis in My Knee and My Doctor Told Me I Need a Knee Replacement. What Do I Do and What

People with arthritis will eventually need a total knee replacement if they fail the other more conservative measures. These treatments include medications (anti-inflammatory medicines and analgesics), physical therapy, topical agents (arthritis rubs), intraarticular glucocorticoid injections (cortisone shots given into the knee joint), viscosupplements (lubricant injections into the knee joint), arthroscopy, and bracing.

Patients who have received the full gamut of conservative medical treatment and who continue to have either severe pain or loss of function, are considered candidates for total knee replacement.

The traditional method of total knee replacement involves making an incision through the large muscle located at the lower end of the inside of the thigh and slightly above the inside part of the knee- the vastus medialis obliquus (VMO). This large muscle is a stabilizer of the patella (kneecap) and one complication of knee replacement is patellar instability.

More recently, minimally invasive techniques using a smaller incision are becoming popular.

Prior to surgery, a careful evaluation of the patient?s medical history is made. Since there is the chance that there will be blood loss, the patient may require either ?banking? of their own blood or injections of erythropoietin (a hormone) to help stimulate red blood cell production.

What occurs with knee replacement is that the surface of the femur (upper leg bone) and the surface of the tibia (lower leg bone) are replaced with metal and plastic implants which are cemented in. For the operation to be successful, the surgeon will require adequate visualization of the operative site, proper sizing of the components, and proper alignment of the limb.

The postoperative period involves extensive rehabilitation and takes anywhere from four to ten weeks before a patient will be as good as they?ll be. Complications of the procedure include patellar instability, infection, blood clots, excessive blood loss, prolonged pain, and loosening of the replacement parts.

In patients who have two bad knees, it is a good idea to get them both done at the same time, if possible.

Finally, it is important that there is coordination between the patient?s primary physicians and the orthopedic surgeons. This is particularly true in patients with other medical problems that require attention. oftentimes, medicines will have to be montored, discontinued temporarily, or changed before surgery.

Careful attention to detail including the preoperative management, the actual surgery, and the post-operative rehabilitation will ensure a good result in most cases.

Enema's for Pleasure Pain or Vitality?

It's one of the 'in things', Movie Stars, Sportsmen even Politicians are talking about having an Enema, but what is it, is it healthy, is it pleasurable?

One point I must make, this is not a 'how to' guide, before undertaking any such procedure I would advise you consult your local medical adviser first.

Basically it is the cleansing of the colon and large intestine, it involves the injection of a solution into the rectum to soften the feces, distend the colon and rectum, and thereby cause the easy emptying of the bowel. Although its all the fashion at the moment, its actually one of the oldest medical procedures and has been practiced by most cultures throughout history. In fact its only within the last fifty years that the regular practice of Enema's has decreased, this mainly by the onslaught of chemical enema's and laxatives from the pharmaceutical industry. Everyone from the Greek's and Egyptians to the Kings of France have extolled the virtues and health benefits of Enema's. The use of enema's today can be broadly split into two areas, one for medical and health reasons, the other for pleasure and erotic practices.

Let's deal with the traditional health benefits first, and have a quick look at your colon. Its main function together with your lungs, skin and kidneys is the elimination of toxins in the intestines, blood and lymph systems. Among its most important functions are the colon are the absorption of water and minerals, and the formation and elimination of feces, so if your colon is blocked it cuts down or stops these functions. A recent survey in the United States showed after surgery where the colon was examined, there was on average over a pound of undigested or impacted meat in the colon. Meat that was unable to move and consequently it rotted and released poisons into the blood stream. Not a good idea so by use of diet or other procedures keeping the colon clean helps maintain a healthy body.

The solution that is usually used in enemas is warm water, but surprisingly there are many solutions that can be used, these solutions are often called 'recipes'. They include Coffee, Beer, Epsom Salts, Limon Juice, Ivory Soap. Each recipe can have a slightly different effect and result on your body, so it is always best to do much research before using a new or untried recipe.

The following is just a short paragraph in the use of enemas from a sexual point as this article can be read by minors, if you wish for more information there is plenty available on specialist Internet sites.

Certainly the biggest growth interest in enema's has been for sexual pleasure itself and the use before sexual acts. Willing partners are far more adventurous in performing Anal sexual acts than in previous years and the application of an enema before can aid not only in eliminating health hazards but heightening the pleasure of the act.

There is wide spread agreement by both the traditional and alternative therapy professions that the cleansing of the colon and intestines by enemas can be both beneficial and invigorating, but it is best to be well advised and researched before trying any procedures yourself.

Cobalt & Manganese and Their Importance in Nutrition

Cobalt is a component of vitamin B12, a nutritional factor necessary for the formation of red blood cells. Recent research in vitamin B12 has shown that its pink colour is attributed to the presence of cobalt in it. The presence of this mineral in foods helps the synthesis of haemoglobin and the absorption of food- iron. The best dietary sources of cobalt are meat, kidney and liver. All green leafy vegetables contain some amount of this mineral. No daily allowance has been set. Only a very small amount upto 8 mcg. is considered necessary. The human body contains 30 to 35 mg. of manganese, widely distributed throughout the tissues. It is found in the liver, pancreas, kidney, pituitary glands. This mineral helps nourish the nerves and brain and aids in the coordination of nerve impulses and muscular actions. It helps eliminate fatigue and reduces nervous irritability. Manganese is found in citrus fruits, the outer covering of nuts, grains, in the green leaves of edible plants, fish and raw egg yolk. No official daily allowance of manganese has been established, but 2.5 to 7 mg. is generally accepted to be the average adult requirement. A deficiency of this mineral can lead to dizziness, poor elasticity in the muscles, confused thinking and poor memory.

The 8 Signs and Symptoms of Gout

Gout generally starts by developing in the joint of the big toe, which is called the hallux. Some of the symptoms of gout are inflammation of the joints affected, pain and redness of the area which gout has occurred, stiffness in the joints affected, and swelling around the joints affected.

Some of the other symptoms or signs of gout can be found throughout the body these may include pain and swelling in areas such as: the big toe, ball of the foot, arch of the foot, ankle, knee, knuckle, wrist, elbow, and hip. Some of the more clear cut signs that gout has occurred are: gouty arthritis, tophi (hard lumps that are under the skin and happen around the joints affected), Hyperuricemia, skin lumps, arthritis of one joint, arthritis attacks which are rapidly onset, and recurrent arthritis attacks.

When moving or touching a toe that has been affected by gout it is severely painful and by not letting it breath or by keeping it covered it can become even more painful. Gout is a disease in which the symptoms develop at a quick pace. Many times the symptoms occur in one day and generally it only occurs in one joint at a time.

It?s pretty rare if symptoms of gout develop in two or three joints at the same time. When widespread symptoms occur like this it is more than likely not gout. But if symptoms are left untreated and it is gout than it is very serious, as gout can permanently damage joints and even cause disability. This is why it?s vital to not delay in getting gout diagnosed. If you feel you are displaying any gout symptoms your best course of action would be to make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.

Once you?ve got yourself along to the doctors there are four common methods for pinpointing the disease.

1.Medical history review and a physical examination ? Your physician should look at your family history and personal medical history. A clear indication of gout can be tophi, which are lumps under the skin, as well as a red shiny area above the affected area. There are some conditions besides gout in which these symptoms occur so a thorough medical examination is needed.

2.Blood test ? A blood test is important as it can determine the amount of uric acid in the blood. However, this isn?t always the best method for diagnosing gout, as high uric acid in the blood does not always mean you have gout. Also if a person is currently undergoing a gout attack uric acid levels in the blood can be in the normal range.

3.X-Rays ? Tophi crystals show up in x-rays as they can be seen under the skin. Many times though x-rays can miss affected joints as they can have gout but appear to look normal.

4.Arthrocentesis ? The most reliable method of diagnosing gout is by using arthrocentesis. Basically a sample of the synovial fluid is taken from the affected joint via syringe and needle. This synovial fluid is then looked at under a microscope and if there is a presence of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in the fluid than you have gout.

Once you have a firm diagnosis of gout, you can take steps to keeping the condition under control.

Supplements and Drugs: A Hazardous Combination

As I have become more involved in using functional nutritional therapy in my practice, I have come to realize that many people are still confused about the safety and effectiveness of various dietary supplements. Because these products are ?natural?, many feel they are always safe to use. Although supplements and herbs can be safer than pharmaceutical drugs, they can still function as drugs in the body and should be used with caution and respect.

It is estimated that over 80% of the world?s population and 60 million Americans use some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). However, although many believe CAM compliments their current traditional healthcare, most do not inform their physicians that they are taking these products. And, many providers don?t ask or discuss CAM use with their patients, although one survey of 181 cardiologists found that half of them took antioxidant vitamins, themselves.

What many people don?t realize is that there is no regulatory agency in charge of the supplement industry. Herbal products are not tested for purity, effectiveness and safety as drugs are. In 1994, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) was enacted that requires the FDA to prove beyond any doubt that a supplement is unsafe before removing it from the market. Other than regulating what can be included on the label, they are unable to enforce any other regulation.

There is no incentive for supplement companies to conduct research because they are unable to patent ?natural? products. Those marketing herbs and other supplements save millions of dollars not spent on research, or worse, yet, conduct their own ?research?, which often does not include rigorous controls. Although there are many excellent and reputable supplement companies on the market, the typical consumer is unlikely to know who the credible ones are. Many independent sales representatives only know what the company tells them, and are as unaware as the consumer.

Even if the supplements are pure and not harmful by themselves, problems arise when combined with drugs. Dietary supplements may compete with drugs, leading to toxicity or treatment failure of that drug. An estimated 4 million people are at risk for herbal-prescription drug interactions. Here is a list of the most common interactions between supplements and drugs:

* Warfarin (Coumadin) is used to prevent blood clotting for those at risk for deep vein thrombosis, stroke, or heart attack. Supplements that can change bleeding time controlled by this drug include flaxseed oil and fish oil supplements, goldenseal, saw palmetto, feverfew, garlic, ginseng, and willow bark, just to name a few.

* Digoxin is another heart medication. Ginseng has been noted to falsely elevate blood digoxin levels. Some herbs that will affect drug effectiveness include senna, licorice, aloe, cascara, hawthorne, foxglove, goldenseal and guar gum.

* Phenytoin is a drug used for seizures. Herbal interactions to be aware of include ginkgo biloba, white willow, lemon balm, skull cap, kava kava, and valerian root, to name a few. It is also important to know that Folate supplementation is necessary with Phenytoin, but excess Folate can be harmful.

* It?s important to take calcium supplements and vitamin D two hours apart from taking either Phenytoin or Digoxin in order to not interfere with these drug?s effects.

Of particular concern are interactions with the herb St. John?s Wort, which is taken by 7.5 million Americans as a depression remedy. This herb can cause serious consequences when taken with drugs such as Prozac, Zoloft, or Paxil, as well as warfarin, cyclosporine, and oral contraceptives. This herb may also interact with Digoxin, chemotherapy drugs, and other drugs, causing treatment failure. Some of these interactions are serious enough that if St. John?s Wort were a drug, the government would restrict marketing, make it a prescription-only item, or require label warnings.

So, what can one do??

Anyone taking a dietary supplement should first do their homework. Know exactly what the purpose of a particular supplement is for and learn all known interactions. There are many excellent informational websites on the internet. A good rule of thumb is to look for a site that does not offer products for sale!

It?s also important to inform your healthcare professional what supplements you are taking, in order to avoid potential supplement-drug interactions that could put you at medical risk. Although many credible professionals sell products, there are just as many who sell products but don?t really understand the physiology of the human body and are just out to make money. Supplement sales is a very popular ?easy? way to make money today!

It?s just as important to do one?s homework when looking for a complementary care practitioner. Although this is only one set of criteria, the best recommendation is to look for one or any of these: A pharmacist or registered dietitian who is educated in medicinal herbs, a physician who specializes in functional medicine, or an MD, OD, ND, DC, PharmD or RD who also has the CCN credential.

Don?t be afraid to take supplements. They serve a very beneficial purpose. But do know why you?re taking each supplement, just as you should know why you take any prescription medications. Be an informed consumer and take responsibility for your health and wellbeing.

Weight Loss Tip : A Glass of Wine

It's amazing how one little innocent glass of Chardonnay or Shiraz can do so much damage to your waistline but it can if you don't take care. A small 125ml glass of wine contains around 100 calories - the equivalent of over 10 pounds of pure body fat being added to your body if you have one every day for a year.

Wine won't fill you up and it may even increase your appetite and lower your inhibitions so that you end up eating more than is good for you. Many people find that after a glass or two all caution goes to the wind.

If you do like a glass of wine with dinner then you need to make sure that you only have one and that you eat less or (preferably) exercise more to make up for those extra calories. When you find out you have to jog for an extra 12 -15 minutes a day to make up for each glass you might think twice.

As a compromise you may like to

  • have half a glass to enjoy the taste without all the calories
  • turn your wine into a spritzer to reduce the overall calories
  • save your wine drinking for weekends or special occasions
This is a time to use a quality not quantity principle. Why not treat yourself to better quality wines and sip your glass slowly to get the full enjoyment?

And if you have friends round to share the bottle, remember champagne is no more calories than other wines, yet it's hard to feel that you're deprived and on a diet when you have a glass.

What Are The 3 Critical Exercise Routine Success Factors?

The 'Rule Of 3' Meets Pareto's '80/20'--And You Get Fit Faster As A Result!

Everybody likes simple lists.

Everybody likes Rules Of Thumb.

And as far as I can tell, everyone wants tighter abs and more energy.

So, naturally, we all look for the ?best? diets and the ?best? training routines to bring us closer to that six-pack...ideally, in the least amount of time possible?

...Oh yeah--and we don?t want to think too hard either!

The Old Way:

Counting calories? Fuh-ged-a-bow-dit!

Getting a bodyfat measurement each week? No way!

Calculating our new ?estimated 1-rep max? for 27 different exercises? Puh-leeze.

So what?s the solution?

Well, if you don?t mind limiting our example to exercise for the moment, I think I have a few things that can help you in your endless search for the most efficient use of your fitness time?

(which is like, what? about 45 minutes a day 3-4 times a week if you?re lucky?) ...It?s OK--you?re human! I do this stuff for a living, and I don?t spend much more time than that myself.

Introducing: ?The Rule Of 3-80/20 (Principle)

Any activity of importance (like exercise) can be broken down into three, and only three Critical Success Factors. Furthermore, one of these critical success factors should account for 80% of your efforts. And the other two, on average, just 10% of your time, energy, and effort (that is, of course, if you actually want to get anything done).

Thus sayeth The Fitness Sage (that?s me).

And you should listen to me when it comes to getting things done, because I have a Masters Degree *and* ADD! (attention deficit disorder). Without principles like the above, I would be hocking blackmarket Pi-Tae-Boga-Lates tapes to out-of-work actors in LA...

Yeah, so I?m ripping off the Pareto Principle and the Rule Of 3--but you?ll forgive me real quick when you see how this applies to your exercise routine.

Now that I?ve circumnavigated my point a few times, here it is real simple, in 3 (surprise, surprise) easy steps:

The Three Critical Exercise Routine Success Factors

1. Consistent Progression: Needs 80% of your time and attention.

2. Sufficient Intensity: Needs 15% of your time and attention.

3. Intelligent Evolution: Needs 5% of your time and attention.

Simple huh?

But maybe you need some clarification, so here goes?

Consistent Progression Explained:

There are really just 3-4 workout parameters that even matter to the average Jane or Joe who wants a good body and excellent health: Rest Period, Load, Reps-Per-Set, and Total # Of Sets.

So your job is to simply pick one of these, hold all the rest constant, and improve your chosen workout parameter from week-to-week, workout-to-workout until you can no longer do so (just remember to hold everything else constant! especially total workout duration).

When you can?t improve on your chosen parameter, pick a different one and repeat.

That?s it. It really is that simple. Tools needed: 1 pocket-sized notebook and a stopwatch.

Of course, you might want some proven, superior methods to ?improve on your chosen parameter.? At the bottom of this article, you'll get your wish! But first...

Sufficient Intensity Explained:

Make sure you?re doing resistance training folks. Not aerobics. Not LSD (long slow distance cardio). Or any other fitness fad that makes your lungs burn more than your muscles. If you?re consistently getting 20+ reps on all your exercises, then you need to choose more difficult exercises. Period.

Cardio and aerobics have health benefits no doubt, but if you?re really looking for ?bang-for-your-fitness-buck?, and you?re short on time, then stick with resistance training. It?s the only kind of exercise that builds muscle and boosts your metabolism permanently--not just during your workout.

Shoot for exercises that are so difficult, you can only perform between 1 and 15 reps. This could be weightlifting (if you lack the creativity and sophistication of a Tao Of Functional Fitness devotee who relies solely on portable exercise equipment--like Fitness Bands--and their own bodyweight), but it doesn?t have to be. If you know how to manipulate leverage, even bodyweight only exercises can be made difficult enough.

Why just 15% of your time worrying about this? Because all you have to do is make sure most of your exercise (excluding a proper warmup of course) falls within this rep range. Not exactly rocket-science. Nuff said.

Intelligent Evolution:

This is just another term for ?periodization? or ?cyclic training.? Basically it means that you need a strategy for changing your exercise routine over the long haul as you get stronger and closer to realizing your goals. Most of the time the Consistent Progression rule takes care of this, hence the paltry 5% of your noggin that?s required to intelligently evolve.

But over the long haul, you sometimes need to dramatically change your workout protocol. There?s not space here to explore all the ins-and-outs of doing this, but a simplified recommendation would be to cycle between phases where you focus on increasing the Average Load you handle during your workouts, and phases where you?re more concerned with the Amount Of Work Per Unit Time you perform (i.e. ?Strength? vs. ?Density).

Conclusion

Consistent Progression (80%) + Sufficient Intensity (15%) + Intelligent Evolution (5%).

Find an exercise routine that gives you that, and you?re on to something!

Dieting? What You Need to Know About Physical Activity

What is the best form of physical activity?

The best form of physical activity is what you will actually do often. That is it. What you will actually do. And the good news is, it can be something different every day. You can walk one day, run another, go swimming another, play Frisbee golf another, go golfing the next, rollerblade the next day, ride your bike another day, etc. You do not have to do the same thing every day. But you can if you want to.

Some hints on what your inner knowing might say around physical activity: One day 30 minutes might be perfect for you, and the next day only 10 minutes is good. Other days an hour or two might be ideal. One day a slow relaxing pace might be ideal, the next a heavy vigorous workout might be called for. There are no rules about how and when you should or shouldn?t do physical activity. My only guideline would be: Do what you want to do, and listen to your inner knowing when doing it. The lawyers would want me to tell you to consult a physician before starting any exercise program here. My thought is, your inner knowing knows better than any doctor does about what is best for you. If you listen to your inner knowing and act on what it says, who cares about the doctor?

Listen to your inner knowing about how long and how intensely to work out. Don?t be so concerned with getting 30 minutes in at X heart rate three times a week. Don?t be concerned with lifting X pounds X times. Focus more on where you are at right now when you are doing physical activity, and do what is best for you right now.

Walking outside is great. You can take deep full breaths of fresh air when you are walking, go within and focus on the God Presence within you. You will also get sunlight from being outside. You can do four of the seven things in one activity. Walking, (how easy is that?) is Great. Pilates is Great. Yoga is Great. Rollerblading is great. There are many forms of physical activity that are wonderful.

Bottom line, just do some form of sustained physical activity.

There is a bonus coming about the importance of mental activity.

How To Remove Toxins From Our Body

Detox diet is a regulated diet that helps reduce the toxins in a body. Toxins could be caused by a number of substances like alcohol, tobacco, pesticides and other elements. Detox diets help in clearing out these harmful toxins through the organs of elimination like skin, liver, kidneys etc. A detox diet strengthens the organs involved in detox and releases stored toxins. A detox program may consist of a special diet, nutritional supplements, herbs, hydrotherapy, exercise, breathing techniques and/or sauna.

Detox Diet: Toxin Elimination

The most important method of removing toxins from your body is through elimination of urine and stools. It is very important to have regular bowel movements to prevent the body getting back the toxic substances. Eat fibrous fruit and vegetables such as banana. You may even try flaxseed with water. This will have a mild laxative effect and help you clear your bowels. Lemon juice in water also has a slightly laxative effect and stimulates the digestive juices which are important for detox. Squeeze a wedge or 1/4 lemon into warm water and drink immediately after rising in the morning, before having the flaxseed drink.

Detox diet using simple food

There are various diets available. And these need not necessarily mean fasting or eating strange and unheard of fruits or vegetables. Your diet should consist of fresh and simple fruit and vegetables that are cooked in a very simple fashion without too much of spices or oil or fat and requires little preparation. Such foods are easily digestable and are easily absorbed and can easily be eliminated. Not only will this fresh food diet eliminate toxins, it will improve vitality and stamina, help you digest better, get you better mental clarity and focus, a feeling of calm and decreased allergic symptoms.

Kevin Pederson has been managing a number of natural home remedies websites which have information on home based natural cures and remedies for having a toxin free body as well as some other diet controlling measures.

What's in Hoodia Gordonii Plus?

If you really want to lose weight and you are looking for a hoodia diet pill to use as an appetite suppressant. There are many products to choose from. One interesting product is called Hoodia Gordonii Plus. This may or may not be the right product for you. This information is provided to help you decide.

The primary active ingredient in Hoodia Gordonii Plus is, as the name suggests, hoodia gordonii. Some hoodia diet pills use a very small amount of hoodia gordonii in their products. Hoodia Gordonii Plus uses 400mg of a concentrated form of hoodia gordonii. CITES certification and product analysis available for inspection at the Hoodia Gordonii Plus website support the authenticity of the hoodia gordonii used by the company. Concentrated forms are created by using alcohol to isolate the active ingredient. The powder which remains when the alcohol is removed contains no skin or fibers and is considered to provide a more potent source than those powders which are created by grinding up the whole plant. Some manufacturers of hoodia diet pills claim that the African natives ate the whole plant to curb their hunger when other food sources were not available, but they actually peeled and discarded the skin.

As the plus suggests, hoodia gordonii is not the only active ingredient in Hoodia Gordonii Plus. 50mg of garcinia cambogia is included. Garcinia cambogia which is commonly called gambooge is a plant native to West and Central Africa and parts of Asia. Gambooge was used in traditional Indian medicine to treat a variety of ailments. It was included in Hoodia Gordonii Plus because certain clinical studies indicate that the active compound found in gambooge can decrease appetite, body mass index, and increase the body?s ability to burn fat. Research of the effects of gambooge is contradictory. Some groups showed positive results while others did not, but it is widely recommended as a natural fat burner. There is another hoodia diet pill which includes garcinia cambogia, but the amount of genuine hoodia gordonii in that product is questionable.

Hoodia Gordonii plus also includes 250 mg of magnesium, an essential mineral found in most vitamin supplements. Some well known diet experts recommend supplementation of magnesium. It is not commonly found in hoodia diet pills. Magnesium helps strengthen muscles including the heart and helps the body to make use of the B complex vitamins, (important for energy) vitamin C and E. Magnesium is found naturally in green vegetables, nuts and seafood, but since the average American diet is high in starches, breads and pasta, which are low in magnesium, most people do not get enough. Total daily intake of magnesium should not exceed 400 mg, as higher dosages can be toxic. Check the label of your daily vitamin to make sure that it does not contain more than 150mg of magnesium. Most do not, but some high potency products may.

There is 50mg of green tea extract in Hoodia Gordonii Plus. Some other hoodia diet pills include green tea as well. There have been numerous studies about the health benefits of green tea. It contains anti-oxidants which are thought to prevent cancer and possibly even wrinkles. Hoodia Gordonii Plus includes green tea in its product because research has shown that green tea can raise metabolic rates, speed up fat oxidation and calorie burning. Because green tea contains small amounts of caffeine (less than a cup of coffee), those who are particularly sensitive to stimulants may have to choose a different hoodia diet pill.

There are other ingredients in Hoodia Gordonii Plus. Those mentioned here are just the most interesting. There are other good hoodia diet pills on the market, which contain nothing but hoodia gordonii. Choosing one product over another is of course an individual decision.

Alcohol: When Enough is Enough

Though there is still some debate about the nature of alcoholism, most professionals now understand it to be a chronic and sometimes fatal disease, likely with a genetic component. In the definition adopted by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, alcoholism is characterized by ?impaired control over dinking?and distortions in thinking, most notably denial.? What this means for alcoholics is that they are frequently unable to make the decision to stop drinking without help from others.

Unfortunately, alcoholics have frequently engaged family member to make excuses and cover up for them. After prolonged and repeated excuse making many family members have a hard time facing up to the fact that they have been part of the problem. The first step to getting an alcoholic help is for family members to stop making excuses. Calling in sick for a husband or wife who has a hangover, cleaning up after their drunken messes, hiding the problem from other family members and dozens of other behaviors are all ways in which well intentioned families just make it worse.

Once, one or more family members have developed an awareness of the problem and ceased any enabling behaviors they may have been engaged in it?s time to intervene. An opportune time to talk to a person about their disease may come shortly after an alcohol related problem has occurred--like a serious family argument or an accident. However, waiting to discuss the problem can also have drastic consequences, so if the person?s behavior is destructive don?t delay. Choose a time when the person is sober and there aren?t other distractions.

One thing people often worry about is what to say. Tell your loved one that you are worried about his or her drinking. Sharing that you?ve read that alcoholism is a disease can help disarm the person and allow them to not feel defensive. This can reduce the likelihood of an argument. Explain to the person what problems you see their drinking causing for them, as well as, how it?s a problem for you.

Tell the person what will you do if they don?t stop. Explain to them that you care for/love him or her too much to watch them destroy themselves without trying to stop them from it. Each person and situation will call for something different. You may state to a son or daughter that you will no longer give them money for rent, you may tell a spouse that you will not go out or talk to him or her when he or she is drunk. Whatever you say to them don?t set consequences that you are unwilling to follow through on, this will only give the message that you aren?t serious and will tolerate their drinking.

Before talking to the person it can be helpful to locate resources. Gather information in advance about treatment options. If a person indicates that he or she is willing to get treatment, it is important that it be immediately available. For treatment resources try http://AddictionsResources.com/

If you don?t get anywhere talking to the person on your own try professional intervention. There are professionals, known as intervention specialists, who can help facilitate a group meeting of family members, friends and even employers to appropriately confront the alcoholic or addict. For more information on interventions see http://InterventionsResources.com/

A great deal of stress can be incurred while coping with an alcoholic or addict, so get support you don?t have to go through it alone. Al-Anon, provides free support groups for spouses and loved ones of alcoholics, and Al-ateen, provides support for children and teenagers with alcoholic parents or guardians. Participating in these groups may help family members process their emotions and develop coping skills for dealing with the alcoholic/addict. Sometimes more help may be need than these support groups can provide and seeking help from a professional counselor may be necessary.

Type 2 Diabetes: A Growing Epidemic

Insulin resistance affects over 60 million Americans. Type 2 Diabetes will occur in one out of four of these people.

Insulin resistance occurs when the body fails to respond in a proper way to the insulin that the pancreas is already producing. The cells throughout the body become resistant to the insulin manufactured by the pancreas, making it more difficult for the glucose (sugar) to enter the cells, thereby causing elevated glucose levels in the bloodstream. Researchers have not yet discovered the cause of Type 2 Diabetes or of insulin resistance.

Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes: :

-Family History of Diabetes

-Obesity

-Physical Inactivity

-Older Age

-Race (Especially Black, Hispanic, and American Indian)

Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms:

-Excessive Thirst

-Excessive Urination

-Excessive Hunger

-Unexplained Weight Loss

-Slow Healing Sores

-Dry and Itchy Skin

-Loss of Feeling in the Feet

-Tingling in the Feet

-Blurry Vision

Type 2 Diabetes is associated with increased risk for :

-Heart Disease

-Stroke

-Kidney Disease

-Blindness

-Limb Amputation

The World Health Organization stated that there is an apparent epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes that is strongly related to lifestyle and economic change. Over the next decade the projected number of diabetics will exceed 200 million, possibly reaching 250 million. This means that you or someone you care about may already have Type 2 Diabetes.

You may be developing Type 2 Diabetes if you are :

-Aging

-Eating an unhealthy diet

-Living a non-active lifestyle

-Overweight.

Type 2 Diabetes can occur at any age. Early detection and intervention are essential to the control and prevention of complications.

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression or peripartum depression occurs after a woman gives birth. Within a few hours of giving birth the amount of the two female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, return to their pre pregnancy levels. Many researchers feel that this drop in hormone levels, much like the smaller changes in hormone levels can affect a womans mood just before her menstrual cycle, is one of the causes of postpartum depression.

In some women the levels of thyroid hormones decrease as well. This decrease in these hormones can lead to symptoms of depression too. Some of these symptoms include a depressed mood, a loss of interest in daily things, problems sleeping and fatigue, irritability and weight gain.

Another factor that can lead to postpartum depression is genetics. This type of depression can be passed down from mother to daughter. There is also a correlation between postpartum depression and women who suffer from severe premenstrual syndrome.

Postpartum depression is also known as the baby blues and one in ten new mothers suffer from this to one degree or another. In addition to the drastic changes in hormone levels, the presence of a new baby in the house is also a major factor in postpartum depression. A new baby can be a major stress on a new mom and this can factor into becoming depressed. Some of these factors include:

Having less free time then before the baby was born and an inability to control the time needed to get things done. The baby demands all the mothers? attention, leaving little time for herself.

Going through labor is extremely stressful and tiring for a new mom. A new mom does not have time to regain her strength post delivery because of the demands and needs of the new baby. Just getting a good nights sleep is nearly impossible with late night feedings and diaper changes.

Many new mothers question their own ability to be a good mom. They become overwhelmed with the care the new baby needs and start to worry that they aren't providing the care their baby needs.

For new moms, postpartum depression can occur with a feeling that they are no longer who they used to be. Their old schedule and ways of doing things have been replaced by the needs of their new baby. They can also feel like they have to do it all and try to take care of the new baby while doing all the things they used to do. This can be very overwhelming because chances are the care of the new baby will not allow them to accomplish all that they think they should.

New moms can also become disconnected from their partner and family. They find that their time is limited and they just don't have time to spend with the rest of their family.

For most women the baby blues will usually go away as their hormone levels get back to normal. But for some women the depression associated with a new baby does not go away and can steadily get worse. It is very important that women who experience any kind of depression after child birth talk to their doctor right away. Most cases of postpartum depression can be dealt with medication and some counseling.

Natural Vitamin Supplements: Is There Really A Need?

Many people these days including many medical practitioners believe we need natural vitamin supplements to compliment our unsatisfactory diets. As in this day and age as most of us lead very fast paced lives, often we do not take the best care of ourselves and our bodies leaving us tired and unfit.

Of course, if we all made sure we ate a diet rich in all the valuable sources needed then there would be no need for supplements at all. But lets face it on a whole we do not. Most couples work long hours and then spend lots of time driving their kids around to different activities and find the convenience of fast food very tempting indeed. Advertising doesn?t help either with enticing ads that get our taste buds watering and our kids screaming for take away.

While we find convenience in eating this way we are depleting our bodies of important nutrients so we look for help in other areas such as vitamins to replenish what we are not allowing ourselves to get naturally through food. This isn?t a bad thing but what you do have to watch out for however is what are in these vitamins.

Are they worse for you than not having them at all. This is where natural vitamin supplements come in to play. There are many reputable manufacturers of natural vitamin supplements that can be found online. Using natural ingredients is the healthier way to go.

The best idea is to do some research online and take a good look at what these companies have to offer and what their natural vitamin supplements have in them. You should always look for the healthier option when looking after yourself. If you lead a busy life and do not eat a perfect diet all of the time then you should be compensating with a safe alternative such as natural vitamin supplements.

What Exactly is a Corporate Treadmill Test?

We have done some research on the term corporate treadmill test and the results are quite confusing. Many different types of sites use this keyword, each of which have a different definition. This page is simply to brief you on the different meanings.

First meaning

The first meaning to corporate treadmill test is the more logical one. In fact, it is literally a treadmill test that corporations do on their employees and future employees. Not all companies enforce a treadmill test; however, it can be beneficial for the tested individual.

Some companies care much about the well being of its staff and will encourage a health and fitness test. They will typically look for any signs and symptoms for cardiovascular, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol.

By incorporating a treadmill test, employees will find out if there is any intermediate to high risk in their health. The treadmill test is also called an exercise stress test. The examiners slowly yet gradually increase the speed while examining the health performance of an employee.

There are many debates whether a corporate treadmill test should be encouraged or not, but there are many health experts that have their own opinion to this matter.

Second meaning

The second meaning to this term is not so much a fitness test, but rather a test on the treadmills themselves. Some sites will use this keyword as a way to describe their reviews on certain treadmill brands. It?s perhaps a way of giving them better credibility.

We feel this way because this search term is often used; however there is no fitness site that explains the meaning of this term. It?s almost as if they used the term as a test they have done on treadmills to increase their integrity.

There isn?t any concrete information on the internet regarding a corporate treadmill test. We hope to have clarified the meaning of this often searched term.

Body Image What Is It?

Body image is what you see yourself to be when you look into a mirror. Depending on your psychological state, you will see something very specific to your mental picture. Things like, your beliefs about your appearance, how you personally feel about your body and also how you feel in your body are all characteristics of general body image.

People who see a distorted image of themselves will be prone to developing an eating disorder of some sort and this is problematical. This will be related to negative body image and some characteristics of this image include:

1.Distorted body image
2.A mental state that only other people are attractive and that your own body image is a failure
3.Feeling of anxiety , being self conscious and ashamed of your body
4.Feeling of awkwardness and being uncomfortable.

As mentioned, a person with a negative perception of themself will be prone to developing an eating disorder and so if this occurs it is very important to seek professional help as this is a mental disease and must be tended to. Early detection of an eating disorder will mean that there is a greater chance that it can be cured.

Quite obviously, part of the rehabilitation of a person will be to instill positive body images in their sub conscious so that they can see themselves as they really are and learn to accept that image. Characteristics of a positive body image will include:

1.Acceptance of your body as it is
2.You see more importance in your own character and strengths rather than just your own physical appearance
3.You are very proud of who you are and spend very little time worrying about your weight, diets, calories and so on
4.You give yourself and receive from others positive affirmation about yourself, thus negating negative thoughts and feelings from your sub conscious.

Positive body image is fundamental to assisting and curing people of eating disorders so make sure that you seek professional help if you know of a loved one who is developing an eating disorder based on low self esteem or any other psychological condition. It could save their life.

Breast Enlargement Products are Scams

Don't waste your money on creams or pills that are supposed to enlarge your breasts. Eighty-five percent of a woman's breast is fat, so the only way to make your breasts larger is to make you fatter, but most women don't want to gain weight. The female hormone, estrogen, stimulates breast fat to grow, but it can only be stimulated so much. A woman whose body does not produce adequate amounts of estrogen will have her breasts enlarged by taking more estrogen, even in a cream; but estrogen cream will not grow larger breasts in normal women.

Various devices that claim to enlarge your breasts with suction are nonsensical. They may cause swelling or water retention temporarily, but the effects will quickly disappear.

Since breasts do not contain muscles, they cannot be enlarged by exercising, but you can do exercises to enlarge the pectoralis muscles underneath the breasts. This will push the breasts slightly forward and may make them appear larger. You can use a special weight machine called a pec dec, where you sit with your elbows bent in front of you and bring your elbows together while pressing against resistance. Start with one set of ten, gradually increase to three sets of ten, and when that becomes easy, increase the weight.

Is Your Child Fat?

Well, according to the latest statistics concerning child health fitness (and my own observance of people where I live), there?s a pretty good chance that he/she is. I can?t wait to hear from everyone who tells me that they are predisposed to be fat, or they have the ?fat gene? (whatever that is), or they inherited fatness from their great great grandmother?s 4th cousin.

Well, I call BS.

Is it possible that you have to work a little harder to lose some weight??.sure.

Will some of you have to go that extra mile to accomplish you goals???absolutely.

Is there ANY reason at all, no matter what shape you?re in, to not get started on an exercise and fitness program??..HECK NO!

There is always time, there is always a way to get you and your family in the shape that you need to be in. Parents, if your child is fat???..guess what, it?s partially you?re fault.

Yep, I said it.

You don?t get all the blame, but you sure as heck get some of it. Stop going so easy on your kids, stop buying mass amounts of donuts, cookies, lard (I?m serious, people actually buy this stuff), and processed foods. That will start cutting the pounds right off of you and your kids?quickly.

Let me give you 1 of the EASIEST and SIMPLIST ways to cut down the fatness of your child:

1.Diet ? I?m not necessarily saying to go on a diet, (most diets you see on TV or the internet are complete jokes anyway, that?s for another day though) but to control what your child eats day in and day out. For example, let?s say on a normal school day your child eats for breakfast:

-Ultra-high sugar cereal, donuts and/or pastries, greasy/fatty bacon and/or sausage all washed down with a tall glass of your favorite carbonated beverage???.or better yet, one of my personal favorites???.a ?diet? carbonated beverage, lol, like that?s going to make everything better.

If your child eats anything like this on a daily basis, please don?t come crying to me when your kid is overweight, out of shape, and can?t even participate fully in their PE class.

?What are we supposed to eat, Chris????I can already hear you guys screaming at me?.lol. Let me show you??????.

What if your child had this for breakfast on a regular basis:

-Oatmeal (much better homemade, but even packaged is ok), ? grapefruit (sprinkled with a touch of sugar), whole wheat or similar toast with low-fat butter, banana, orange juice/cranberry juice.

Let me tell you, this is an EXTREMELY flavorful and exponentially better way to start your day.

Let me open the floodgates before you guys do??..

?My child will NEVER eat that?

?I don?t have time for all that?

?Donuts, pastries, etc. are so much faster and TASTIER (lol)?

Hold on; let me get a tissue for those tears????

Is it out of your system? Good.

Without bring out too much of my psychologist side, parents??..you are going to have to assert yourselves. YOU are the leaders of your household, NOT your bratty little ones (or your sweet little ones either). YOU make the decisions, YOU go to the grocery store, YOU are in control.

It?s nice to be in control, isn?t it?

My advice, as always, is to take baby steps.

Start small, there are SO MANY variations to the sample breakfast I gave to you above, it?s not even funny.

Ok, maybe a little.

But seriously, this is one of the TINY steps that I have been talking about to get you and your child?s health and fitness life on the greater path to success.

And if you don?t think that what you eat everyday is a massive part of this??..well, I?ve got some oceanfront property in Tennessee to sell you.

How much are you willing to spend?

A Home Water Filter Do We Need To Filter Our Drinking Water?

Do we really need a home water filter? Can't we just assume the water that flows from our kitchen and bathroom tap is sufficiently treated for contaminants by our municipal water facility? In order to answer these questions, we need to obtain a little more background information.

Next to air, water is the most important element for our survival.

Water is an integral part of our life and we use it for many household tasks throughout the day, such as: drinking and brushing our teeth, steaming fish and vegetables, washing salad greens, face and hand washing, showering and bathing, feeding the pets and watering our plants.

Most of us take it for granted that our tap water is safe to drink and use for common household tasks. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), however, estimates that 45,000,000 people drink tap water that is polluted with chemicals, lead, germs, parasites and other impurities.

A large majority of the major U.S. cities still employ the same basic water treatment technologies that have been used since before World War I. In cities such as Atlanta, Boston and Washington, D.C. consumers are relying on pipes that are, on average, over a century old. Many people don?t realize that our municipal water treatment plants are not designed to remove synthetic chemicals and as a result we find traces of health threatening contaminants in most of our public water supplies.

Situations arise when our tap water is polluted with more than the usual amount of contaminants. Municipal treatment plants have breakdowns that take time to repair. Lead leaches into our drinking water from old pipes and private wells. Smaller water-supply sources can become contaminated from agricultural and other environmental pollutants.

It is difficult to be sure of the exact amount of toxins in our water supply. The EPA has estimated that, in our modern society, we use in excess of 75,000 toxic chemicals and more than 1000 new chemicals are developed each year. The Ralph Nader Research Group? after reviewing thousands of pages of EPA documents acquired through the Freedom of Information Act? concluded that to date more than 2100 toxic chemicals have already been detected in U.S. water supplies.

Our planet earth reuses the same water over and over again, which means there is no new water. Every single chemical used in our society, eventually winds up in our water supplies. As the use of synthetic organic chemicals increases, so does the toxicity of our water. The earth's natural filtration process is not effective at removing these toxic synthetic organic chemicals.

The human body is made up of over 70% water. The proper function of each organ system, as well as every healing process that happens inside our body, takes place with water. Optimal functioning is only possible when water, our body's transport medium is clean. Wastes form during the body's metabolism and if these wastes are allowed to accumulate through insufficient water intake, fatigue and even illness results.

If we drink water that contains chlorine or other organic and inorganic chemicals, we force our liver and kidneys to act as a filter for these contaminants. The liver purifies and detoxifies the blood of waste products and toxins. In addition to regulating the body's water balance and maintaining optimal pH, the kidney also removes metabolic waste products from the bloodstream.

By providing the liver and kidneys with water, a universal solvent and transport medium, they are assisted in their role as a natural body filter. Bombarding these organs with water that contains traces of additional toxins only hinders the body detoxification process and delays waste removal.

Water may not cure every ailment, but it is a primary ingredient that allows our body to dilute and eliminate toxins that have accumulated over time.

What Can We Do To Provide Healthy Water For Our Family?

The simplest, most effective and also the most economical way to treat municipal tap water is a home water filter. Multi-media water filters that combine activated carbon with iron exchange media such as KDF are an excellent choice.

Carbon and KDF work together to remove or reduce traces of contaminants such as chlorine, lead, Cryptosporidium and Giardia cysts, synthetic chemicals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), MTBE, pesticides (lindane, atrazine), chemicals linked to cancer (benzene, TTHMs, toxaphene) and hundreds of other chemical contaminants that may be present causing bad taste and odors in your drinking water.

The result is healthy, great-tasting water that still contains natural trace minerals that are beneficial to optimal wellbeing and health.

5 Ways to Get the Best Out of Radishes

They sit left behind on relish trays. They?re often by-passed in grocery store refrigerator shelves. Dad and Grandpa usually eat them but later complain of belching them up. The poor radish has gotten a bum rap. There are at least five different varieties; but for now, the popular, red globe variety will be spotlighted. They are a great source of vitamin C and an excellent low calorie snack (only 12 calories in a half cup of radishes). Radishes are root vegetables that are classified in the cabbage and mustard family, thus their strong taste.

Most people eat them raw, with a little salt. If you?d like your radishes to be a little crispier and a little less sharp in taste, put them in ice water for a couple hours before you plan to eat them. There are also a number of ways to cook them. Boil a half inch of water, add the sliced radishes, and then cover and simmer until tender, adding more water if necessary. Cook five to ten minutes. To microwave, place a half pound of sliced radishes in a microwave safe dish with 1 tablespoon of water or broth. Cook for approximately four minutes.

If the taste of raw radishes is a little too pungent for some, try them steamed. Their bright red skin will turn pink on steamed radishes. The easiest way to steam them is to place whole radishes in a vegetable steamer and cook over boiling water until barely tender. Cook approximately eight to twelve minutes. Another way to prepare our friend, the red radish, is to stir fry them. Sliced radishes combine well with other vegetables and meat in stir-fries. Don?t over cook them or they?ll become mushy. Cook approximately three to five minutes.

As Cliff Claven would say, ?It?s a little known fact that ?? radishes were first cultivated thousands of years ago in China, then in Egypt and Greece. In Greece they were so highly regarded that gold replicas were made. (Now that?s some serious radish lovers!)

So the next time you walk past radishes in the grocery store or at the market, back track a few steps and pick up a bunch or two. Or better yet, plant some in your garden this year. Radishes are one of the very first vegetables ready for harvest in the spring. They will in turn, ready your soil for other veggies! Give these little guys a chance again.

What Every Woman Needs!

As a woman, your body is very complex. Throughout every phase of your life you will require extra care and nutritional support. Today's scientific advances support a number of natural choices for women, like soy. Still, the fact remains that calcium, folic acid and iron continue to be the most important nutrients that can impact a woman's total health. All women should take a daily multiple vitamins with these essential nutrients.

Calcium is essential to strong healthy bones.

As a woman you have a much greater risk of developing osteoporosis because you have less bone tissue and lose bone more rapidly then men do. Be sure to consume adequate calcium throughout life, as this may reduce your risk of osteoporosis later in life. Calcium is essential to the health of bones, teeth and skin, yet few adults get enough of it in their diets. Make sure you find a high quality calcium supplement to ensure you receive a health-enhancing daily allowance.

Folic acid impacts women in many ways.

It plays an important role during rapid fetal growth and development. In fact, adequate intake of folic acid as part of a healthy diet before and in early pregnancy may reduce the risk of having a baby with a birth defect of the brain or spinal cord. All women of childbearing age are recommended to consume 400 mcg of folic acid everyday starting at least one month before conception into the early weeks of pregnancy.

Folic acid also plays a role in the maintenance of normal homocysteine levels; elevated levels of homocysteine are believed to be a risk factor of heart health.

Iron

Iron is a vital nutrient that plays an essential role in forming healthy red blood cells and transporting oxygen. It's estimated that as many as 62% of women over the age of 20 are not meeting the RDA for iron. Women also tend to be low in iron because they tend to eat foods low in iron and lose iron through menstruation.

Drinking a glass of orange juice with your cereal can boost iron absorption by the body. Vitamin C helps the body metabolize the iron. A high quality Vitamin C supplement rich in antioxidants to help fight the harmful effects of free radicals is a wonderful supplement not only to assist iron absorption, but also to combat ageing.

Vitamin C is coveted for its many benefits, including a contribution to healthy bones, teeth, blood vessels and the production of collagen.

In addition to taking a daily multiple vitamin, routine exams are key to prevention and healthy living. You should have a yearly gynecological exam that includes a pelvic exam, breast exam and PAP test. Also, consider performing monthly self-breast exams to familiarize yourself with how your breasts normally look and feel. If you are over 40, you should have a mammogram every year.

Human Euphoria

Pheromones are naturally occurring chemicals found in animals and humans which elicit sexual behaviors and are used to attract the opposite sex. Scientists have succeeded in identifying, isolating, and recreating this human sex pheromone. These natural pheromones have been well documented to trigger very powerful sexual responses!

Unlike fragrances, which are detected by the Olfactory Glands in the nose, Pheromones are detected by the Vomeronasal Organ or VNO. The VNO is located in the Nasal Pit directly under the nose. When the VNO receives a pheromone signal it sends a message to the brain that stimulates the body and creates a subconscious increase in sexual desire.

Human Euphoria Pheromone Perfumes and Colognes contain Human Sex Pheromones scientifically designed and proven to attract men and women. This natural aphrodisiac is based on the isolation and synthesis of unique pheromone compounds mixed with essential oils to create a smell that drives men and women crazy!

Pheromones can be worn just as you would wear any perfume or cologne. Apply them to your neck, forearms or any other part of your body. They can be worn anytime you are interested in getting attention from the opposite sex or even just to feel the power of being noticed and attracting others. They can be used on a daily basis to gain an edge in business, at school or at any social event.

This increase in the awareness in especially observable in adults of age group 30 years and beyond, who were earlier shy enough to report to dermatologists earlier believing that this is a teenager disease.

This is evident from the statistics so available. The ratio of the number of cases reported in 1999 to that are reported now have a great difference. It has been studied that adult acne affects 25% of all adult men and 50% of adult women sometime in their adult life. It may get developed or re-occur in their 30s, 40s and beyond, and may result in lifelong depression or social anxiety in adults in a similar way as it can in teens.

The cause of this is yet to be discovered, but in many cases, it is suspected to have something to deal with hormonal roots. So if you are suffering from such disease, get yourself checked because your negligence or shyness may result in ever lasting physical and psychological ramifications.

As far as the treatment of this skin disorder is concerned, you can check out the various acne products that the market is full of or can give a try to the most popular treatment for adult acne, which is very similar to the treatment for teen acne. This simple and easy go method basically involves the use of benzoyl peroxide to have clear skin regimen. Nettles

Parts Used: Aerial parts of young plants

Main uses

General: In hair shampoos and rinses
Culinary: As vegetable or soup
Medical: Arthritis, eczema, anemia.

Nettles grow wherever human beings disturb the land. Although we may curse the nettle for its sting, it is invaluable as a food, rich in vitamins and minerals, and as a medicine. In spring, the fresh green leaves may be cooked and eaten like spinach, made into a delicious soup or drunk as a tea.

Nettles make a valuable tonic after the long winter months for they provide one of the best sources of minerals. They are an excellent remedy for anemia their vitamin C content ensures that the iron they contain is properly absorbed.

Nettles has long been one of my favorite herbs. Once you get past the stinging part, they make a fabulous hair tonic that virtually eliminates hair breakage (a problem that always gets worse for me the longer my hair is.)

Hair Tonic Ingredients:

Fresh Nettles
Fresh Rosemary
*Fresh Sage (For Dark Hair)
*Fresh chamomile (For Blond or Red Hair)
Apple Cider Vinegar

(Dried herbs can be used in place of fresh. I just happen to prefer the fresh.)

Instructions:

Fill a medium sized pot with water, throw in a few handfuls of: Nettles, Rosemary and Sage. This is for dark hair. Substitute chamomile for sage if you have blond or red hair. Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce heat and allow the herbs to steep for an hour or so. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool. Strain the liquid through cheesecloth or a non-printed paper towel. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to tonic.

Storage:

While this is a great hair tonic, it does not contain any preservatives and the bulk of it should be stored in the refrigerator.

Usage:

Purchase a small to medium sized spray bottle and fill with tonic. Wash hair normally, towel dry, then thoroughly spray tonic onto hair and comb out. Do not rinse out the tonic. The slight vinegar smell will disappear within a few minutes.

Within a week you will notice a dramatic improvement in the shine, texture and strength of your hair.

ADENERGY Supplement Guide

ADENERGY is a relatively new dietary supplement that was created by the company Optimum Nutrition. ADENERGY is said to be the first supplement on the market to use their patented PEAK ATP. PEAK ATP is a patented form of adenosine triphosphate, which is a metabolite found naturally in the human body.

The idea behind ADENERGY is to allow maximum absorption of the ATP metabolite into the muscles and blood stream. With more ATP, the results are said to be increased blood flow to active muscle groups. With increased blood flow, the muscles are given more oxygen and waste products are removed swifter as well. More oxygen to the muscles also means that more fat and carbohydrates can be burned and used.

The increased blood flow that results from the use of ADENERGY is also known to increase cerebral blood flow which can help improve mood and memory. ADENERGY has also been said to increase athletic performance by slowing down the on set of fatigue in muscles as well as by boosting energy levels. Included in with the PEAK ATP are also anti-oxidants as well as some great calorie burning ingredients.

If you?re looking for a great way to lose weight or just some added energy, ADENERGY may be what your looking for.

Reasons to Try the South Beach Diet

Are you tired of trying different diet plans, with no positive results? Turn to South Beach Diet. This is not a traditional low-carb plan. What makes it different is that here you'll be encouraged to choose the right carbs like whole grains, certain fruits and vegetables and right fats like olive and canola oil and lean sources of protein. When you eat bad carbohydrates and fats you tend to feel hungrier and thus you end up eating more causing weight gain.

Good carbohydrates: They have a low glycemic index so they can be digested and absorbed slowly. They are high in fiber or high in good fats. You should also eat fiber or fat to slow digestion of the carbohydrates. Good fats: They are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, especially those with omega-3 fatty acids. Saturated and trans fats are bad fats.

How does it work?

South Beach Diet was created a well known cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston. He developed this diet for his cardiac patients after a lot of scientific dieting research. The best thing about this diet is that you will get your three, normal size meals everyday and you can even enjoy your snacks and deserts. In just a short amount of time you will see incredible results. So you can not only enjoy your favorite foods but you can also put your fear of getting fat to rest.

According to Dr.Agatston, when you consume bad carbohydrates especially those found in foods with a high Glycemic index, they create an insulin resistance syndrome which is an impairment of the hormone insulin's ability to properly process fat or sugar and not only this, bad carbohydrates also increase the chances of getting cardiovascular disease.Therfore his diet includes the consumption of good fats and good carbohydrates.

The three phases South Beach Diet:

This diet works in phases, the first two for a specific timeframe and the third phase for life.

Phase I -You will eat normal-size portions of lean meat, fish, eggs, reduced-fat cheese, nonfat yogurt, nuts, and plenty of vegetables including snacks and desserts. This will last for two weeks. You would have to high or moderately high-glycemic carbs so that you eliminate insulin resistance .This way the body will lose its insulin resistance, and thus use excess body fat, causing the dieter to lose between 8 and 13 pounds.

Phase II- Whole grain foods and fruits will be reintroduced in your diet, although in smaller amounts than were likely eaten before beginning the diet, and with a continued emphasis on foods with a low glycemic index. You should continue to lose weight until you reach the desired weight. Phase III- This begins when you reach the desired weight. Here you will continue to make good eating choices which would include three servings of whole grains and three servings of fruit a day.

Effective way to lose weight:

This diet puts emphasis on changing your way of eating and variety of foods. It discourages eating of very refined processed foods, high-fat meats, and saturated fats in general. Agatston says that you should eat until you are satisfied and you do not have to count calories. You just have to eat the right food that is good carbs and fats. By decreasing the intake of bad carbs, it will help you metabolize what you eat more effectively and improves insulin resistance as well leading to weight loss

An Acne Treatment Regime for Adults and Teens

Perhaps the most important acne treatment regime is consistency! No matter what treatment is chosen there is one sure way to make it fail and that is inconsistent or improper use.

Not all acne products have good use instructions. When the product is not part of a larger kit it probably only has sketchy use information. There needs to be a better long term use beauty regime in place in order to reap full benefit from the products chosen.

When choosing over-the-counter products there are only four choices of active acne fighting ingredients which can be utilized with full FDA approval. Those ingredients are often used in about the same order as part of an acne fighting regime.

The first of those ingredients is salicylic acid. This is frequently used in soaps and cleansers as the first step in a twice daily treatment regime. The second is benzoyl peroxide which serves as an antibacterial and oil eliminator. The third is resorcinol and/or sulfur often used in combination as a leave on peeling agent.

Although theses ingredients recur in many different forms and under many different brand names there is a great variation in the percentage of each used. This is particularly true in the case of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.

Higher percentages of benzoyl peroxide will yield good results on cystic torso acne. The same strength will cause excessive reddening and drying or blistering of facial skin particularly in babies or the middle aged.

The same situation exists with salicylic acid. A low 2% concentration of this ingredient will cause slow peeling of outer skin layers and eventual loosening of clogged pores. The higher percentages at up to 35% will yield deep pore cleaning but would not be suitable for daily use. An acne treatment regime needs careful planning.

What Vitamin Should I Take?

When I provide lectures on health and nutrition, I am often asked the question, ?What vitamin should I take?? This is a surprisingly common question and reflects just how confused people are about nutrition and how to make sense of the information so poorly presented in the general media. By understanding the principals of nutrition we can better hope to answer this question for ourselves and help others when they too ask, ?What vitamin should I take??

The short answer is, ?all of them, in appropriate amounts.?

A Vitamin is a category of organic molecule that is required by a living organism for normal health. Vitamins are often referred to as ?micronutrients? because as a percentage they make up the smallest portion of the foods we eat in a healthy diet. If deprived of all sources of a particular vitamin you will eventually suffer from disease symptoms specific to the missing vitamin. Once such disease is called Scurvy and was once a leading cause of death among Europeans until 1747 when it was established that citrus fruits and even sauerkraut would prevent the disease and ?cure it? in those who were already suffering from Scurvy. In spite of this discovery, it took nearly 100 years for the population to accept this relationship between diet and such a horrible disease. In the early 1900s the molecules were identified in these foods and eventually referred to as vitamins.

The naming convention of vitamins was a bit disorganized and some vitamins were later classified as other types of nutritional components. For example, the Nobel Prize winning research for the discovery of Vitamin C also refers to a necessary ?Vitamin P? that is now known as the flavonoid family of molecules. This was done as the definition of vitamins was further refined and agreed upon.

As a category of nutrition, vitamins are essential for life; they are not stored in the body and cannot be created by the body. Vitamin A is converted from carotenes, after the ingestion of certain fruits and vegetables, but still cannot be created without those necessary ?building blocks.? Similarly, Vitamin D can be produced in the skin by someone who receives regular exposure to sunlight and is not wearing sun block. Remaining are Vitamins B, C, E, and K. Some other vitamins have been proposed but have not sufficiently studied to determine need and minimal levels.

When choosing a supplement, first understand that nutrition should be appropriate in amount, high in quality as well as complete. It is better to choose a high-quality multivitamin than an assortment of individual vitamin supplements. Also, vitamin supplements should be food-matrix and standardized. This ensures the vitamins are properly utilized in the body and that each and every supplement is providing the same amount of active ingredient as the last. Most of the top selling brands of vitamins are neither food-matrix, nor standardized, so do your own research and only supplement your good diet with a top-quality vitamin supplements.

Finally, remember that supplementation is intended to improve nutrition and ensure that you are receiving appropriate levels of micronutrients in your diet each day. Supplements are not intended to replace the need for a good diet, but instead to make up for the reality that we live in times when it is necessary to improve the diet through supplementation to ensure balanced nutrition.

When someone asks you ?What vitamin should I take?? you should now know that it is important to take a balanced, high-quality multivitamin first. After you have established a baseline of nutritional supplementation, give yourself a few months and then research individual vitamins if your personal nutritional needs require a bit more of one vitamin over another. You can then add individual, high-quality vitamin supplements to your multivitamin use. Maybe people find that additional vitamin supplements are not necessary and that a high-quality multivitamin improves their energy and sense of well being without the need for additional doses of individual vitamins.
